I think that everyone can agree that there is at least one recipe that Mom makes better than anyone else! Typically, this is a recipe that Mom was handed down over several generation or perhaps she came up with on her own and has perfected it along the way. In fact, a lot of times, there isn’t a “written recipe” at all…Mom just knows how it is prepared and proceeds to nail it each and every time!
Below is one of those recipes. I did ask permission of my mom before I shared it with all of you, so I shouldn’t get in trouble here…? My wife, Debbie, has prepared this recipe a number of times, so I recruited her help on the details to ensure that you can enjoy it as much as we do. This salsa recipe is little on the hot side, but you can control that with the amount of crushed red pepper you include.
This salsa is phenomenal with any Mexican dish. Here a few that you can also try!
Ingredients
- 1 28oz can whole tomatoes
- 1 can (4.5 oz) green chiles
- 1/2 white onion chopped
- 1 bunch green onion
- cilantro (chopped)
- 1 lime (juice only)
- 1 pinch of sugar
- 2 tbsp white vinegar
- 2 tsp red crushed pepper
- dash of black pepper
- dash of salt
Directions
- Open 28 oz can of whole peeled tomatoes and drain tomato juice into bowl.
- Using a blender or food processor, blend whole peeled tomatoes to desired consistency. (I prefer less chunks)
- Pour blended tomatoes in bowl.
- Add remaining ingredients
- Stir-Chill-Enjoy!
