Hey Team!
I hope that everyone is enjoying the Labor Day Holiday weekend! Who’s a College Football fan? There were some great match-ups in this first week and with the NFL kicking things off this week, it seems like there is always a game to catch on TV.
The Coburns spent some time at the pool before the close of the pool season and celebrated our twin girls turning 2 years old yesterday. It was a nice relaxing weekend for the most part.
With just 2 weeks left with the Beta cycle of Focus T25, the end of the 50 days is nearing. We plan to start the Gamma cycle afterwards. The Gamma cycle is only 4 weeks as opposed to the 5 that make up the Alpha and Beta cycles (10 weeks total). This means that we should wrap the entire Focus T25 program by mid-October.
With Focus T25 wrapping up at that time, there will be roughly 12 weeks left in 2013. This is perfect! I’ll be able to get started on some fitness program at that time and finished just as we ring in 2014. That sounds a little odd to think about already even though we still have 4 months left in 2013. However, that is how I think ahead with my fitness plans. Typically the programs are 10-13 weeks in length, so I am always segmenting my calendar by those time frames, working backwards at times if I am planning for an event. Call me weird…
“What’s the One Thing…?”
I often get emails, Facebook messages or questions from my site like the following: “What’s one exercise I should be doing to show my abs?” or “What’s one thing that helped you lose body fat?” or “What’s the one thing you’ve found works the best for ______ (fill in the blank)?”, etc…
The answer is NEVER ONE THING!
It is always going to be a combination of factors that will help you reach your health and fitness goals. I think that I CAN share with you the concepts that have been proven by countless others that have been effective when it comes to seeing results.
Let’s talk about each of the individually.
1. Tracking
This applies to tracking both your nutrition and your fitness. Tracking you nutrition is key, especially if you need to lose weight and have never tracked your nutrition in the past! If you aren’t tracking what you are consuming, fueling your body with, it is going to rather difficult for you to know where you need to improve. If you ARE tracking with a product like myfitnesspal (www.myfitnesspal.com), I can check out the things that you are eating on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and help you dial it in with comparison to your goals. Sometimes it can be the simplest of tweaks can lead to big changes, but until you know where you are starting from, you have NO IDEA on what you need to change.
The same applies to your fitness. Nearly all of the Beachbody fitness programs have the ability to track your progress along the way. For some this means; number of reps and weight used, but for others it isn’t as straight forward and you will have to make note of the things that you struggled with or the things that you excelled at that particular workout. In either case, without a means to track these things you don’t know where you can/need to improve or where you have seen the most improvement along the way. I know that I get excited when I have surpassed a previous PR (personal record) on a particular exercise. This is a great confidence booster, but if you didn’t track your previous efforts you can’t celebrate those “minor victories”.
Tracking you progress with photos and measurements (aside from the scale!!!) of yourself is another great way to see the changes in your body that you normally do not see with your own eyes. We look at ourselves in the mirror everyday and more often that you probably think. We are used to seeing that reflection and because of this, we often miss the subtle changes that are happening along the way. Others see it in us, but self-doubt on our own progress often blinds us to these facts. Looking at your before and after photos and measurements along the way is by far one of the greatest motivators to keep yourself going, don’t neglect the impact of seeing your body change through a lens other than your own eyes in the mirror.
Do you need help with Tracking? Let me know how I can help!
2. Consistency
I’ve mentioned this in the past, but your consistency with how you treat your own health and fitness is always at work. The more consistent you are about showing up for each and every workout, staying within your nutritional goals for the day, the more likely you are going to reach whatever goals you have set for yourself!
I don’t do often, but I feel REALLY GUILTY if I ever skip a workout. Do you?
If not, you probably aren’t consistent enough with your workouts to notice how it affects your mood or state of mind for the remainder of the day…
How about your nutrition, you are consistent there?
I often find that many people aren’t and that is when their results suffer. Once they start to really focus on this area with consistent efforts, they notice that their previous struggles go away.
How consistent do you need to be?
Let’s use a 90/10 rule as an example. If you were consistent 90% of the year (365 days) that would mean you would have 36 days out of the year to “mess up”. That’s an entire month and then some! You can do that right? You don’t have to be 100% perfect, just consistent!
Now, please know that I am not advocating that you should plan to skip a workout or add in some binge weeks with your nutrition. Not at all! I am simply trying to convey that it’s OK to fall down or slip a little here and there. Having the consistency to get back up and stay on course it what will benefit you in the end!
Challenge Group can help keep you consistent. Are you a part of one? Ask me how you can be.
3. Why Power
I have mentioned in the past about Will Power verses Why Power. Your “WHY” is what is going to drive you to reach your own health and fitness goals. Not what I say on a weekly basis, not what you hear from social media, not what you might read in a book, magazine or on a website.
If it isn’t powerful enough, your “WHY”, or what you think is your “WHY” will not keep you going in the right direction. At the first sign of failure or the first encounter with adversity you won’t respond unless you have it in your corner, constantly reminding you WHY it is your are doing what you are doing, WHY you are going through what you are going through.
What is your “WHY”? I’d love to hear it!
Lastly
I’m looking for a few select leaders this month to help us change the world. If you want to do something truly fulfilling while you’re working on your own health & fitness AND earning a nice side income, go here now…
Are you passionate about fitness? Love sharing your knowledge with others?

Being a coach is a great way to supplement your income while doing something you love.

Let’s help others and pay it forward!
How many of you have/know someone that you think would benefit from being a part of this group? We all probably know SOMEONE that may be struggling with health and fitness.
Who do you know that has high cholesterol, blood pressure issues or blood sugar problems? Do you know someone that needs to lose weight, tone up or gain weight?
If you think you know someone, even if it is just one person, let me know and let’s get them plugged in. A little friendly competition is always beneficial to those involved.
Got a question?
I also wanted to make sure that everyone on my team is aware that I am here for YOU! If you have ANY questions related to health and fitness, don’t hesitate to contact me directly either on Facebook or via email (coachchris@yourfitnesspath.com). I am always willing to provide feedback and suggestions on ways that you can get the results that you are after.
And 2 favors that I ask:
1) If you like the hard work I put into writing my articles and videos, PLEASE help me out by sharing them. Click the share links below them and share them on FB, twitter, etc. It really helps me get more exposure and grow our team!
2) Also, as always, remember that the way I benefit from being your coach is that I earn a commission from any Beachbody products that you purchase, as long as you buy them through my site, www.yourfitnesspath.com, or by logging in to www.teambeachbody.com to do your shopping (If you buy from the plain beachbody site I get no credit). It helps with the amount of time I spend answering all your questions and helping you out.
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Chris Coburn
Keep bringing it and inspiring others to do the same gang!!
