Latest Pre-Workout Review
I have tried a few pre-workout supplements in the past and while they all pretty much offer the same benefits, I continue to use them off and on, giving me a little bit of a boost for daily workout. I was recently sent a sample of the Formula-1 Pre-workout supplement from the Dynamic Formulas brand via Suppz.com. Here’s my review of this pre-workout supplement. If you are interested in checking out the other pre-workout supplements that I have tried and reviewed in the past, here are the articles that you can read.
Mix-ability
The serving size is roughly 12 grams, so it is only slightly more than most pre-workouts. The photo below should give you an idea of the size of the scoop that is included with the tub. Despite that, it mixed up quite well and did not settle at the bottom of my shaker cup before I finished. It seemed to dilute in about 12 oz of water pretty well, there wasn’t any gritty residue left in my mouth or all over the inside of my shaker cup.
Taste
The Formula-1 pre-workout is available in two flavors; blue raspberry and fruit punch. As you can see from the photo above, I tried the Fruit Punch flavor. Many of the other supplements that I either currently use or have tried in the past come in a similar tasting, fruit punch flavor, so I got what I was expecting from the flavor department. It didn’t have an overpowering taste whatsoever and it was quite tasty, though it’s pretty hard to mess up the fruit punch flavor…
Price
The retail price for the 35 serving size tub that I received is $39.99. This basically amounts to a $1.14/serving cost, which is a little bit higher than some of the other pre-workout supplements on the market. However, I was able to find the Formula-1 pre-workout at Suppz.com for $24.99, which would bring the cost/serving down to $.71! I have purchased from the Suppz.com website in the past and they almost always have some kind deal going for many of the well-known/respected supplement brands in the market. Check out the Stack n Specials area of their website first for deals on stacks.
Supplement Facts
I have included a copy of the supplement facts label, so you can check out the details of what’s actually in this stuff. Actually, there’s not much to it, though companies have started to use these “blends” and “complexes” more and more to kind of hide all of the details. A few of these, I have never heard of and had to look up myself…
The Myotropic Priority Complex is pretty straight forward; Beta-Alanine, Creatine Monohydrate, L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate, Agmatine Sulfate, L-Citrulline-D, and L Malate . I don’t normally care to have Creatine in my pre-workout supplement, since I usually have it by itself. Though it isn’t clear how much of each ingredient in a single serving, at 8210 mg, there is certainly less than the 5-10 grams of creatine that I normally consume pre-workout.
The Extreme Energy Formula introduces some ingredients that I have not run into previously, though I found it curious that this “formula” included some of the same ingredients as noted above?
Of course, this second formula includes Caffeine, the Caffeine Anhydrous variety. The exact dosage amount isn’t detailed since it is part of a blend…which again, makes it tough to tell how much of any single ingredient you are getting here, but I would venture to guess that the caffeine makes up the majority of that 1400 mg.
Impact on Workout
This is always the most interesting question and can usually be answered in the first or second use of any pre-workout. The purpose of any pre-workout is “wake you up” and get you a bit amped up to hit your workout. Many also tout the concentration during your workout and Formula-1 is no different. Since you know that you are taking a pre-workout, you might naturally tend to induce the effects that are intended. This is an phenomenon is seen in control groups within the pharmaceutical industry quite often even though they are given nothing more than a placebo.
So how did it effect me? I definitely felt the effects of the Beta-Alanine with the usual tingling in my face and ears. I would consider my tolerance for caffeine above average, so I didn’t have a huge rush of energy here, but again, since it is hard to know exactly how much caffeine is offered per serving, I can’t say for certain it is higher or lower than my normal pre-workout dosage.
Like most pre-workout supplements, Formula-1 claims to offer “increased focus”, but I, personally, don’t think that I have ever experienced this benefit while working out. If I have, I have attributed it to the pre-workout since I don’t use a lot of different brands here. I do feel like this supplement was on par with getting me ready/amped up for my workouts and gave me a bit more energy to push through them. You shouldn’t expect to breaking any lifting records while using Formula-1, or any other supplement for that matter. If PRs are being smashed, it is likely the combination of several factors, the supplement you are currently using probably has only a minor role to play here.
Summary
I liked the Formula-1 pre-workout supplement and would certainly try it again. Usually when I try pre-workouts, I like to use them for at least a week before I pass judgement on how well I like them. I used this tub for a week straight, and then switched back to my normal pre-workout just to see what kind of differences I might notice. Honestly, other than the taste, I can’t say that I saw any significant variation to how it effected my workout, positive or negative. I will continue to use the Formula-1 pre-workout as a change of pace here and there and would certainly consider purchasing it from Suppz.com, as they seemed to have the most affordable price online.
If you are looking for a new pre-workout that isn’t extreme in its effects, but still offers and decent amount of that normal pre-workout tingle and gets you ready to hit your workout hard, giveFormula-1 a try.
