Make Your Own Medicine Ball Rack
Is there anything you can’t make with PVC? It is such a versatile product with the various ways to connect it and how easily it cuts. It is durable, strong and easily available at any home improvement store.
While I didn’t use PVC, not too long ago, I was able to make a pull up bar using some plumber’s black pipe and I use it quite often with the P90X2 and Body Beast programs. There is certainly nothing wrong with the P90X Chin Up/Pull Up Bar that Beachbody offers, it was just not something that I had a user-friendly area in my house to place. The layout/floor plan of our home and given that I was primarily working out in the garage, making my own was more suitable for me.
Why I Needed a Medicine Ball Rack
With P90X2, medicine balls are an integral piece of equipment in the program. Not required, but in order to go EXTREME with several of the exercises, at least 2, and sometimes 4 medicine balls were needed. I originally only started out with 1 medicine ball and that got me through the first phase without much trouble, but I wanted to step it up, so I picked up 3 more before the 2nd phase kicked off.
The problem was that now I had 4 specific use balls in my workout area that were never really where I left them each day and didn’t have a home to keep the rest of the area clear and safe.
Med Ball Rack Options
- Local – I initially looked at my local sporting good stores, but none of them carried anything in-stock and I would have to either place a special order or order online.
- Online – I love Amazon.com and order from there quite often, so that was my first stop. Lots of options, but none that really met my criteria within my budget.
- DIY – I knew I could probably make something out of wood, but it would be big, bulky and really heavy. PVC to the rescue!
PVC – Medicine Ball Rack – Materials Needed
- 2 – 5′ PVC Pipes (1-1/4″)
- 6 – T Joints
- 4 Elbow Joints
- 1 Roll of Duck Tape (optional)
Medicine Ball Rack – Putting it Together
I recruited some help with this one and we put together a video to hopefully explain the process a little easier.
Summary
There may be some other ways to put together a medicine ball rack with PVC, but this was a pretty simple and straight-forward way to get it done. With a total cost between $10-$15, the price was right too! Make you own or suggest improvements on my “design” and post your comments below!
