Whenever I start talking about health and fitness with people, most of them come to the question: “what supplements are you taking or were you taking to get the results you got”. No kidding, this comes up literally every time. So I thought I would give everyone the inside scoop on what supplements I am currently using. Please keep in mind that the supplements I take are what work for me and I would certainly recommend them to anyone! However, SUPPLEMENTS CAN NEVER REPLACE NUTRITION!
If you want to get the BEST RESULTS possible, nutrition has to be your #1 focus, as it will typically make up 80% of your results. Shakeology is by far one of the best supplements from a nutritional standpoint that is currently available! However, some people think that if they go out and purchase creatine or some kind of pre-workout supplement, their bodies will magically transform in a day or two. It not only leaves them frustrated, but me as well that they have been lead to believe such ideas.
If you have a supplement budget your first investment has to be Shakeology if you want to feel your best and see amazing results. If you start doing P90X or P90X2 but continue eating the same and only take creatine don’t email me gripping about not seeing results. If you want my advice then please follow it. So without further ado here is what I’m currently taking in the order of importance:
1.) SHAKEOLOGY: P90X or P90X2 takes the guesswork out of working out. It’s awesome because you don’t have to be a genius. Just pop in a DVD and hit play. Well Shakeology takes the guesswork out of your nutrition. Just take one shake in place of a meal and you’re set. Like I said above, this should be the #1 supplement you take if you have a budget for supplements. It will do more for your body then all the other supplements combined! 2.) Protein: If you’re on a fat shredder diet trying to eat 50% protein you will find that getting that much protein in your diet is tough. Unless you supplement with a good protein powder. I’m currently using Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard which I buy for about $52.00 from amazon.com. Beachbody sells a protein powder but I only suggest things I use and I have never used it. I haven’t used it because honestly I think there are better protein powders on the market.
3.) Creatine: Currently I’m taking Optimum Nutrition Creatine Monohydrate and I purchase this from Amazon.com for about $20.00. This amount usually lasts me 2 months which is perfect since I cycle creatine 2 months on and 1 month off. When it comes to creatine pass on all the fancy marketing and “new advanced creatine”. Use the one that’s been tested over and over and proven to work….creatine monohydrate.
4.) Pre-Workout: I love a good pre-workout to get me amp’d up for my workout and prepared to really focus and push harder then I did the previous workout. My current favorite pre-workout is Energy and Endurance from Beachbody. You can read my review of the product here: Energy and Endurance
5.) Vitamins: Lastly, I only take 2 additional vitamins daily. Vitamin C and Vitamin B Complex. I take 4000Mg of Vitamin C (2000Mg in the AM and 2000Mg in the evening) and 400Mg of Vitamin B Complete (200Mg in the AM and 200Mg in the evening). Vitamin C in large quantities can be a problem for some people as too much ascorbic acid and lead to diarrhea, so if you aren’t sure if you body can handle that much, ease into the dosage.
Hopefully this helps answer a lot of your questions. The important thing to remember is these are supplements! Meaning they should supplement your clean diet of whole clean foods. I honestly believe you can get results without them but they do help to get you where you want to go a little faster.
